Moose Hide – Native Hand Drum Kit

We are thrilled to introduce Moose Hide Hand Drum Kits to our collection.  For over 20 years we have been gathering hides and each year we have a goal to recycle/reclaim more hide instead of them getting thrown in the garbage.  This past fall we went crazy and gathered almost 3 times the year before.  We are now able to offer so many leather and rawhide options AND we now have enough hides to present Tribal Spirit Moose Drum Kits.

Now, these drum kits come with a warning:  They are NOT intended for beginners.  If this is your first drum you REALLY should start with a deer hide kit.  Moose hide is much thicker and requires strong arms and fingers to properly pull a moose hide drum.  If you are not strong enough the drum will not properly pull and may be flat.  You have been warned…

Each kit includes a moose rawhide circle which is big enough to wrap all the way over the side of the back of the drum (this makes a drum that has a longer life and has less problems with humidity), holes punched, extra strong lacing to handle the strength of moose with enough to weave a handle, an over built white ash hoop (we make a white ash hoops designed specifically for moose drums, thicker and deeper again to handle the strength of moose hide) AND a drum stick kit.

We are offering 4 different sizes.

12″ Moose is a small drum that has an intense tighter tone.  This drum is most popular for sweat lodge, but is also a loud drum, for its size, if you need a small travelling drum.

14″ Moose is a versatile drum, great for both sweat lodge but also has a very nice tone.

15″ Moose is starting to get louder and more powerful.  Give a great boom, rich tone and still not too heavy on the arm. If you want a big boom but are not too strong then go for a 15″.

17″ Moose is our big boomer.  Our favourite of all our drums.  Big huge boom, loudest drum at the circle, but it is a little heavy….you need a strong arm to play a 17″ moose for an evening.
