Blue Elderberry

Blue Elderberry is VERY high in Vitamin C, which helps enhance your immune system. Also high in vitamins A, B, pottasium, and dietary fiber. Rich in antioxidants, which work by reducing free radicals damage to the body. Reactive molecules released during metabolism can begin to accumulate and lead to oxidized stress. Oxidized stress is a risk factor for development of type 2 diabetes and cancer. Antioxidants found in elderberries helps to prevent oxidated stress, thus reducing your risk of developing cancer and type 2 diabetes.

There are several ways to enjoy elderberries. Some options and preparations may include, lozenges, syrups, tea’s, and the most popular is the syrup.

Here is a great recipe for an Elderberry Cough Syrup.

2/3 cup Elderberries

3 1/2 cups water

2 tablespoons fresh ginger root

1 teaspoon cinnamon powder

1/2 teaspoon cloves of clove powder

1 cup raw honey

Put water, spices & elderberries in saucepan.  Bring to boil, reduce and simmer for about 45 minutes until liquid has reduced by half.  Remove from heat and cool.  Mash berries with spoon or for and pour through a strainer into a glass jar. Discard Elderberries….or make a great tea with them.  Once elderberry liquid is lukewarm add the honey and stir well bottle in 16 glass jar.  Standard dose is 1/2  to 1 teaspoon for kids or 1/2  to 1 tablespoon for adults, daily.  During cold or flu take same dose every 2 to 3 hours to knock those symptoms out!!
