$150.
Fine example of the old manuscript ribbon whose function is to hold in place the manuscript wrapper or sa pa lwa, by wrapping around the book several times when covered. This double-faced tablet woven ribbon has depictions or sunok or offering bowls and other Buddhist designs as well as archaic Burmese writings that recite Buddhist scriptures. Also included on many ribbons of this type are names of donors, family members, and even weavers all for the purpose for making merit for the person. There is an excellent article in the winter 09 issue of the Textile Society newsletter by Kathleen Johnson and Tsai Yushan about the sasigyo or manuscript ribbons. According to the article, these types of ribbons have not been produced for many years.
